Vision Therapy

Pediatric Vision Services

Our Pediatric Vision Services help children maximize their vision and learning potential. Licensed Teachers of the Blind and Visually Impaired provide screening, assessment, and specialized instruction to strengthen visual skills, develop compensatory strategies, and support communication and independence. Therapy may include adapted materials and tools such as large print or Braille, slant boards, or light boxes to enhance learning and engagement.

Understanding Visual Impairments
A visual impairment is a condition that affects a child’s ability to see and process visual information, due to differences in the eyes or the brain. These differences can influence how a child interacts with their environment and accesses educational content.

Categories of Visual Impairments:

  • Mild to Moderate Visual Impairment: Vision differences that affect learning and may require adaptations.

  • Significant Visual Impairment: Reduced visual clarity or field that requires specialized support.

  • Legal Blindness: Vision of 20/200 to 20/400, or visual fields of 20 degrees or less.

  • Total Vision Loss: Little or no light perception.

Teachers for the Blind and Visually Impaired focus on the educational and functional impact of vision differences, tailoring instruction and support to a child’s age, development, and strengths. Our goal is to ensure every child can access learning, build independence, and thrive in the classroom and beyond.
